COACH
Jason Carr

Hi, I’m Jason Carr

I’ve been a martial artist since 1986, starting in the Kung Fu style of Feng Shou which was a great all range art. From there, I tried many different arts including boxing which I loved. I’ve trained in Muay Thai and trained in Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and Filipino Kali/Escrima in London.

After 18 months of British Jujitsu, I travelled to Chicago to train in Catch wrestling which was mind-blowing and wresting became my passion for the next few years.

In 2011, I became the boxing coach at Freestyle Combat Academy where we enjoyed a steady win rate of around 80% over lots of fights, seeing some of our students become champions on the fight circuit.

I’ve competed in kickboxing and full contact stick fighting.

I’m a certified instructor in JKD and Filipino martial arts, a kickboxing black belt and an ABA boxing Tutor.

I developed BMAX (boxing and martial arts cross training) as an amalgamation of all the martial arts I’ve done, but with a realistic approach to training. It has to work for self-defence in a real altercation, with the base art of boxing and fitness to fall back on. It includes kicks, knees, headbutts, some grappling, weapons, stick fighting, some knife defence, and soft skills like awareness of your surroundings, spotting early warning signs of violence etc.

And of course, we plan to continue into sport boxing bouts for those that wish to compete and test their skills in the ring.

I’m currently a black belt in kickboxing under Matt Braybrook

Level 2 certified instructor in Jeet Kune Do/ Filipino martial arts under the amazing Michael Wright

ABA boxing tutor.

2018 developed the BMAX (boxing and martial arts cross training) classes .

Self-defence has always been my motivation, not so much belts or the sports side of things but I competed successfully in both stick fighting and kickboxing, had to defend myself on numerous occasions but I’m glad to say not for quite a few years now.

BMAX ( boxing and martial arts cross training) is a culmination of all the things I like to do the most, with a base art of boxing. It plays the biggest part of my classes, many fights can be stopped before they get scrappy with good boxing skills and movement, then we look at the ‘what if that’s not enough?’ We incorporate kicks, elbows, knees and headbutts, basic grappling with ‘rips’ from catch wresting. There will be weapons training including looking at the sport of stick fighting (Escrima) and getting a team together to enter the British Championships, this will be a separate class if it seems popular enough.

Also, some of my students will be looking at fighting on the white-collar scene once again, so combat athletics and fitness is crucial in BMAX (boxing and martial arts cross training).

It’s an adult-only class at this time due to the content.

And that’s me ðŸ˜€

Hope to see one or two of you in the class in the future.
